The theme for Sprint 1 will be Developer Tools. Well done on finishing your first sprint! You probably found it a little overwhelming at first but you've all worked so hard to build some incredible project! Now you're going to use what you've learnt over the last 3 weeks and build upon it.
During this sprint, you'll work to achieve the following:
- A project associated with Gaming
- Apply feedback you received from Sprint 1
- Attend a live session hosted by a member of our team!
Theme
For this sprint, the theme will be Gaming. You may have never looked into game development, but don't worry! Our industry experts are here to help. In the video below, Abner made a great video explaining game development are and what you should focus on. Find that below!
Game Development will be a little unfamiliar with some new concepts, but there's some great opportunity to learn some new skills, and have some fun making games!
You don't necessarily need to make a game for this! Anything related to game development fits with the theme. Maybe you want to make an app to help people with a game, or work on a mod for an existing game that allows for that: the possibilities are endless. Work with your Pod Leaders to come up with ideas!
Reminder: only use assets and material that you have the right to use. You can find assets with a license that will let you use them for education, or you can have a go at making your own assets!
Eligibility
You must be an Explorer Fellow of the MLH Fellowship (Batch 2) in order to be eligible to participate.
Requirements
As you know, you have until the beginning of your hackathon final demos to work on your project. As part of your submission, you’ll need to complete the following:
- Publish your project on GitHub with an appropriate Open Source license
- Record a 3-5 minute video overview and demo of your project.
The full page can be found here.
Publishing Your Project on GitHub
Before demos the repository should be set to public and should have an appropriate README and LICENSE included. One of the criteria that you will be evaluated on is your use of Git and GitHub best practices, so also try to make sure your commit history is visible on the repository.
Recording a Demo Video
You can use something like OBS to record your screen to showcase your project. You don't need to make any slides, but instead show us what your project does (regardless of how polished it is). Upload this to YouTube afterwards but make sure it's unlisted or public.
